New in "My miners"

Your miner's break-even price

Since October, your GoMining app shows a bitcoin price next to every miner. Above it, your miner earns. Below it, maintenance eats the whole reward. Here's where that number comes from, what moves it and how much room you have today.

What the number in the app means

GoMining added it on 1 October 2026, along with the new rewards report (official announcement). On the My miners screen, every miner shows the bitcoin price at which it covers its own costs, coloured against the current price.

Read it like this: if bitcoin is above your break-even, every day your miner pays you something after maintenance. The further above, the bigger your margin. It's a snapshot of today, not a forecast: it moves with the network and with your discounts.

Where it comes from, in one line

Your miner earns bitcoin and pays maintenance in dollars. The bitcoin it earns is worth more or less depending on the price; the maintenance bill isn't. The break-even is simply the price where the two are equal:

break-even = maintenance per TH per day ÷ bitcoin mined per TH per day

With today's numbers, a 12 W/TH TH costs $0.0233 a day in electricity and service fee, and mines 44.7 satoshis. Divide one by the other and you get $52,105.

Notice what's not in the formula: the size of your miner. A 5 TH miner and a 500 TH miner at the same W/TH have exactly the same break-even. More TH means more reward and more maintenance in the same proportion. What changes the number is efficiency and discounts.

Work out yours

Put in your miner's W/TH and your total maintenance discount (the app shows it in the rewards report, next to the service fee):

After the 2028 halving—

Electricity is $0.05–0.07 per kWh depending on the data centre (official documentation). The halving column uses today's network, which won't stay still: more on that below.

Every efficiency, every discount

The same calculation for the four efficiency levels you'll see most, with the discount combinations that are actually reachable:

Two things jump out. First, a 12 W/TH miner with every discount has a break-even below $40,000: bitcoin would have to more than halve before it stops paying. Second, efficiency weighs more than any discount: 28 W/TH with everything maxed out still needs a higher price than 12 W/TH with nothing. That's the whole argument of the W/TH tiers article, in one table.

What moves your break-even

Pushes it up

Network difficulty

More machines on the network means fewer satoshis per TH. Difficulty went from 132.7 T on 11 October to 140.6 T on 20 October, and every break-even rose about 6% with it.

Pushes it down

Your discounts

They cut maintenance directly, so they cut the break-even by the same percentage: 29% off maintenance is 29% off the price you need.

Doubles it

The 2028 halving

On April 2028 the reward per block halves. With today's network, the 12 W/TH break-even would go to $103,694, or $73,622 with every discount.

Pushes it down a little

Transaction fees

Miners also collect the fees users pay. When the network is busy, each TH earns more and the break-even drops. Today they're a small part of the reward.

Why your margin is bigger than it looks

The break-even assumes the network stays as it is. It doesn't. Most of the world's machines are less efficient than a 12 W/TH GoMining miner, and they start losing money first. Today that happens with bitcoin around $61,600, well above your break-even.

When those machines switch off, difficulty falls, each TH you own mines more satoshis, and your break-even comes down on its own. That's why an efficient miner rarely sits at its break-even for long: the rest of the network gives up before it does. It's also why the halving figure above is a ceiling, not a prediction. The long-term article models how the network reacts.

And if a day does fall short, Reward Protection holds it at zero instead of a negative balance, and the new rewards report tells you when that's what happened. The maintenance fee, line by line.

In short

  • The break-even is the bitcoin price where your miner's reward equals its maintenance. Above it you earn every day.
  • It depends on W/TH and your discounts, not on how many TH you have.
  • Today, 12 W/TH breaks even around $52,000 without discounts and below $40,000 with all of them.
  • Difficulty pushes it up, discounts push it down, and the 2028 halving roughly doubles it with today's network.
  • Less efficient machines switch off first, which lowers difficulty and your break-even with it.

If you're about to buy, this is also why the "is it worth it" answer depends on W/TH. And if you're starting small, here's what $100 gets you. If you have a monthly figure in mind, here's how many TH it takes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the break-even price on GoMining?

It's the bitcoin price at which your miner's daily reward exactly covers its maintenance (electricity plus service fee). GoMining shows it for each miner on the My miners screen since October 2026. Above that price your miner earns; below it, maintenance takes the whole reward.

How is the GoMining break-even price calculated?

Divide the maintenance per TH per day by the bitcoin mined per TH per day. With October 2026 data, a 12 W/TH TH costs about $0.0233 a day and mines about 44.7 satoshis, which gives about $52,000. GoMining doesn't publish its exact formula, but it says the figure depends on difficulty and your discount.

Why did my break-even price go up?

Almost always because network difficulty rose: more machines share the same reward, so each TH mines fewer satoshis. Between 11 and 20 October 2026 difficulty rose about 6%, and every break-even rose with it. Losing a discount, such as breaking your service-button streak, also raises it.

Does a bigger miner have a lower break-even?

No. Reward and maintenance both grow in proportion to TH, so the size cancels out. Only efficiency (W/TH), your discounts and the electricity rate change the break-even.

What happens if bitcoin falls below my break-even?

Maintenance costs more than the miner mines that day. Reward Protection holds the day at zero instead of a negative balance, and the rewards report says so. In practice, the network's less efficient machines switch off first, difficulty falls and your break-even comes down with it.

If you decide to go in, get something for it

With the code 11jY4 you get +5% extra hashrate on your first miner purchase, up to a maximum of 25 TH, and a free month of VIP Platinum+ — a maintenance discount that lowers your break-even from day one.

The code does not travel on its own, and this is what goes wrong. If you tap through on a phone, the link drops you on the app download page, and no part of the address survives that jump. You install, you sign up… and the referral was never applied, with nothing to warn you. Copy it now and paste it into your profile —gear icon top right → Account details → friend's code— before you buy your first miner. Afterwards it can no longer be applied.
